The Sheridan Faculty of Business is pleased to announce that professors Sally Mitzel, Marcie Theoret, Golnaz Golnaraghi and Scott Hadley have received the 2012 NISOD Excellence Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) at The University of Texas at Austin.

They have been recognized for their exceptional dedication and commitment in creating innovative student experiences that results in job-ready graduates in existing programs as well as planning the development of innovative new programs to meet the future demands of business. They received their awards at the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, the largest conference focusing on community colleges, in a three day conference event in May 2012.

In addition,  Professor Charles Minken, pictured left, was recognized for by The Chair Academy  for his work in developing degree programs for The Sheridan Faculty of Business.

In 1989, NISOD hosted its first ceremony to honor and name faculty, staff, and administrators who are innovators in teaching and learning. Members of the Faculty of Business began to move their materials into the new offices at The Hazel McCallion campus in the heart of Mississauga.  While most of the campus is complete there are still a myriad of finishing touches to be added to the building and the equipment.  Sheridan IT technicians were hard at work setting up and testing the classroom technology to ensure a trouble-free start-up for September.

Sheridan faculty and staff participate in a Building Orientation Briefing

The day began with an Building Orientation Briefing to acquaint the faculty and staff with the new HMC campus which is still undergoing significant construction and finishing. Following the briefing, faculty and staff were taken on tours of the new campus and their new office space.

August 8 marks the move date for Office of the Registrar, Student Services (including the Assessment Centre) and Library Staff.

Hazel McCallion Campus receives $60 million funding from Provincial gov’t to continue with Phase Two

June 22, 2011

William Holmes, Dean, Sheridan Faculty of Business and his assistant, Stella Coleman point out the fourth floor Faculty of Business offices at HMC.

Sheridan College will receive $60 million in funding from the McGuinty Government to construct the second phase of its new Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga. Phase Two construction is expected to begin in late 2012, following community consultation to develop detailed plans for the new facility.  Phase Two will accommodate an additional full-time 3,500 business students, bringing the total enrolment potential to 5,260 when the second phase at the Hazel McCallion Campus opens in 2014.

The first phase of the HMC opens this September, and will accommodate 1,760 students, primarily enrolled in business diploma and post-graduate programs. Enrolment in most programs had already reached capacity by March of this year.

“The enthusiastic response to the first phase of our Mississauga campus has confirmed the growing demand for higher education in the region,” said Dr. Jeff Zabudsky, President and CEO. “The new building is vital to helping us meet this demand, by providing the space and facilities that will enable more Mississauga residents to pursue diplomas and degrees closer to home. This investment by the Ontario government is helping our students get the best possible education to succeed.”

“This announcement recognizes the outstanding positive response to the launch of Phase I of the Hazel McCallion Campus. It is a fantastic opportunity for Sheridan to continue to further its mandate to provide high quality, leading edge applied undergraduate education to the students in the Brampton-Mississauga-Oakville corridor,” said Dr. William Holmes, Dean, Sheridan Faculty of Business.

Two of our 3 Year Advanced Ontario Diploma in Business Administration -  Marketing  graduates Anthony Guidotti and Nathalie Fassano graduated from HAN University in Arnhem in the Netherlands in June 2010 with Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business and Management Studies. “Both students did very well to complete their degrees in a foreign country and adapted well during their studies,” said Professor Charles Minken, Sheridan School of Business liaison with Han University.

Nathalie also graduated from Han with distinction due to her high academic achievement in her program. These are the first Sheridan Graduates completing their diploma at HAN.

HAN University is also an exchange study partner with Sheridan’s Bachelor of Applied Business in Global Business Management studies. Currently a number of other Sheridan graduates from Sheridan School of Business 3 year Finance and 3 year Advertising Diploma programs are studying at HAN.

Nipissing University Convocation was held on October 22, 2010 and approximately 45 Sheridan business students graduated. Associate Dean Jeremy Staples attended.

Nipissing University offers their courses on-site at Sheridan College to allow Sheridan graduates to complete their Bachelor of Commerce degree (B.Comm) in about 12 months by offering a full selection of small classes and tutorials lead by expert professors. Students would normally complete the required 15 courses for the degree over a three semester period.

Griffith University Convocation was held on September 25, 2010 and 3 Sheridan business students graduated. Sheridan School of Business Dean, Dr. William Holmes attended on behalf of the School of Business.

“Both attending graduates enthusiastically endorsed their Griffith University experience and commented that their studies at Sheridan had prepared them well academically.  The opportunity for Sheridan graduates to complete degrees at prestigious institutions like Griffith University in Australia is just one of the many important educational and professional pathways available for our students,” said Dean Dr. William Holmes.

Griffith University is spread over five campuses between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland. Our students are perfectly placed to make the most of everything Queensland has to offer academically, culturally and geographically.

Established as a Rotary Structured Program in 1971, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary’s leadership training program for young people. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth through intensive training programs that often take the shape of a seminar, workshop, or camp.

International RYLA invites up to 150 exceptional young people to refine their leadership skills, discuss issues relevant to global citizenship in the new millennium, and share ideas on how to make a positive impact in their communities. By invitation-only, young leaders celebrate Rotary’s commitment to youth. Participants learn advanced leadership techniques through interactive training exercises. During small group breakout sessions, participants explore and discuss current issues and topics pertinent to leadership in a global society.

Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to meet other exceptional young leaders from across the world while learning advanced leadership techniques through training exercises.

“This is a tremendous honour for Joy and we congratulate her for her achievements. It is testament to her strong abilities and leadership qualities, said Joseph Henry, Supervisor, Student Leadership and Engagement, Sheridan College Student Services.
