Sheridan Enactus hosts Learn To Succeed by Professor Lou Schizas at HMC A145 April 9th 1:00 pm
April 5, 2013Faculty of Business Professor Ginger Grant speaks about Business Innovation Through Storytelling
March 27, 2013Faculty of Business Professor Ginger Grant recently hosted a presentation on the impact of storytelling on business transformation at the Sheridan Applied Research Collaboration Centre, Trafalgar campus.
Storytelling is a tool increasingly used by business to portray complex issues in an engaging and comprehensive manner. Professor Grant says that the ethical complexities involved in conducting business in a global environment require a multicultural approach to business problems. Stories also provide the context where students can hone their moral imagination bringing a balance between critical and analytical thinking.
Professor Grant says the purpose of story has always been to act as a bridge between the past and the future: It is the stories of old that carry the cultural value system into the present and on into the future, re-contextualized to suit the time at hand. Why is this important now? Our mode of production has shifted to organizational knowledge creation and knowledge workers. In this new economic environment, a traditional mode of production thinking is potentially counter-productive if not destructive. A new paradigm is needed, one that recognizes that the future belongs to people who use their hearts as well as their heads. Awareness of this shift is the key to realizing a new paradigm that links passion to purpose with an economic driver.
This presentation is a sneak peek of Dr. Grant’s upcoming lecture at the Global Innovators Conference 2013 in Doha, Quatar, on April 4-7th.
