The Mississauga City Centre campus is centrally located next to Square One and the Mississauga City Hall.
The Sheridan School of Business new Mississauga City Centre campus is on track to accept its first students for September 2011. Incoming first year students for the Business Administration programs and students enrolled in the graduate certificate programs will take up residence in the new campus starting September 2011.

The new 156,000 sq ft campus features four floors of classrooms, a 21 foot high Living Wall, and will accommodate 1760 students in its first phase, and is built to LEED Gold Standard.
The new campus will offer a variety of full-time Business programs, as well as programs and services designed to help newcomers to Canada integrate into our communities.

The Mississauga City Centre campus will offer two and three year undergraduate programs in Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, and Banking and Wealth Management. Post-graduate programs will include Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, Project Management, and Financial Management.

Dr. William Holmes, Dean, Sheridan School of Business
Sheridan School of Business faculty and staff have an opportunity to informally meet and greet their new dean, Dr. William Holmes at each campus this week. Dr. Holmes meets with faculty and staff Tuesday after Student Orientation activities at the Davis Campus and Thursday after the Trafalgar Campus Student Orientation. Wednesday new faculty and staff will also have an opportunity to meet and mingle during a welcome back BBQ and faculty meeting on Wednesday at the Trafalgar Campus.
Bill Holmes joins The Sheridan School of Business from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver where he has been the Executive Director, Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Business Administration. During his time with SFU, Bill successfully developed and fostered a highly effective service culture; ensuring that a positive and rewarding student experience is foremost in the mind of educators and administrators.
Prior to joining Sheridan College this year, Dr. Holmes spent the summer teaching in Copenhagen and assumed the role of Dean, Sheridan School of Business on August 16, 2010.

Jon Jones, Interim Dean welcomes Sheridan School of Business alumni to the reception.
Sheridan School of Business alumni, faculty and staff had a unique chance to mingle and meet while viewing the new plans and the current state of construction of the new Mississauga City Centre Campus. The event hosted by Sheridan Alumni and the Sheridan School of Business also featured a panel from the construction hoarding where alumni and faculty could sign their names and leave a lasting message for future Sheridan School of Business students.

More than 100 Sheridan School of Business alumni and faculty heard the latest information about the new Mississauga City Centre campus first-hand at the Living Arts Centre. Michael Cloutier (Business Marketing ’79) Chair of the Sheridan Board of Governors, and Sheridan Hall of Fame inductee, and Sheridan President, Jeff Zabudsky, shared plans for the new facility which will open in 2011 in the City Centre.
Dr. Zabudsky praised alumni for exemplifying the benefits of a Sheridan College business education, and invited the Sheridan School of Business grads to serve as ambassadors for the new campus.

Jon Jones, Acting Dean, Sheridan School of Business, expressed his satisfaction in working closely with alumni partners and thanked them for their roles as program advisors, mentors, and current and future employers. Jones outlined the wide range of programming to be available at the City Centre Campus which will be geared to post-graduate and undergraduate students at different phases in their careers. In addition to the Sheridan School of Business programs, the City Centre Campus will also provide programs for new immigrants to Canada.

Business Administration students proceed into Hammerson Hall at Sheridan College Convocation 2010
Families, friends, and guests watched with pride as more than 1000 Sheridan School of Business students graduated from their programs in two ceremonies at Convocation 2010 Sheridan College. Hammerson Hall at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre was the site of the recent Sheridan College convocations with graduates from 27 Business programs in the annual graduation event.

Dr. Jeff Zabudsky confers Human Resource graduate Alix Rust with her diploma while Board of Governors Vice-Chair, Bob Kaye looks on.
Graduates from the Business Administration programs were conferred with their diploma at the morning ceremony, while graduates of Advertising, Office Administration, Court and Tribunal Agent, Paralegal, and Tourism and Travel programs and the graduate certificate programs including Financial Planning, Business Process Management, and Project Management received their diploma in the afternoon ceremony.

The Sheridan Business convocations featured speakers Craig Worden, Senior Vice-president and Managing Director – Public Affairs Pollara Strategic Insights, and Ginny Dybenko, Dean, School of Business and Economics, Wilfred Laurier University, who each shared their particular insights into making connections in the current business milieu.
Alumni speakers, Seth Stover, Marketing 2009 and Rosana Filipe, Human Resources 2008 each brought greetings to the new graduates of their recent journeys along the career path. Valedictory addresses were delivered by Lindsay Sherry, Advertising 2010, and Laurie Bouchard, Accounting 2010.

Jon Jones, Interim Dean, Sheridan School of Business
Mary Preece, Vice-president Academic Sheridan College announced the interim appointment of Sheridan School of Business Associate Dean, Jon Jones, who has agreed to serve as the Acting Dean for the School of Business until the end of August to support both the School and Bill Holmes, in-coming Dean, as he orients himself with the Sheridan School of Business in August.
“Jon Jones will provide sound and committed leadership and I look forward to working with him in this interim capacity”, said Preece.
The interim appointment is to ensure seamless transition of administrative functions between the departing Carolyn Ferreira and the newly appointed Dean, Bill Holmes, who will arrive in August to assume his role.
Associate Deans, Cindy Gillett, Neil Robb, and Jeremy Staples will continue to add support to the administrative functions of the Sheridan School of Business during this transition period.

Neil Robb Returns as Associate Dean

Neil Robb, Associate Dean
Neil Robb has again joined the Sheridan School of Business as Associate Dean to assume program responsibilities and to assist in the move to the Mississauga City Centre Campus planned for September 2011. Robb’s program responsibilities will include General Business, Accounting, Accounting For Internationally Trained Accountants, E-Commerce Management, and Business Communications.
Faculty Retirements

Doug Law
Former Local 244 Union President, faculty member Doug Law retires after an extensive career at Sheridan College. A professor since 1984, Law was also long time president of the OPSEU Local 244 Faculty Union.
Sheridan School of Business professor Neil Beattie retires this year after serving as a faculty member since 1990. Beattie taught Sheridan undergraduate and graduate marketing students and came to the college after a long career in marketing.
John Janzen Retires

Professor John Janzen
After more than 27 years as a professor in the Sheridan School of Business, John Janzen has decided to retire. A faculty member since 1986, Janzen was lead professor in software based courses for the Finance and Accounting programs.
John intends to return to the Sheridan School of Business to continue to teach a few courses on a part-time basis.
Coming Events
Sheridan School of Business Academic Awards Event
The Sheridan School of Business Academic Awards Event will be held May 26 in MacDonald-Heaslip Hall. More than 100 awards valued at more than $60,000 will be presented to deserving School of Business students.
Sheridan College Convocation 2010
The annual Sheridan College Convocation event will be held at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre on Tuesday June 8 at 10:00 am for Business Administration programs and at 3:00 pm for Advertising, Paralegal, Office Administration, Travel Tourism, and all School of Business Graduate programs.

Dr. Bill Holmes, is appointed Dean, Sheridan School of Business
The Sheridan School of Business is pleased to welcome Dr. William Holmes as Dean. Bill holds a Doctor of Business Administration (University of Southern Queensland), a Master of Business Administration (University of British Columbia), a Master of Arts, Philosophy (University of Waterloo) and Bachelor of Arts Degrees in both Philosophy and Economics (University of Waterloo).
Holmes is a Certified Human Resource Professional, an Associate Fellow with the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance and a Member for the Trust Companies Institute of Canada. In addition to Bill’s impressive academic background, he is currently a candidate for the Certified Management Accountant designation.
“I am truly excited and honoured to be joining Sheridan at this time. I have worked with many educators and business leaders in the past who have been involved with Sheridan and I have continually been impressed by the high regard in which they hold the institution, its faculty, its staff and its students,” said Holmes.

Lesley Johnson, Accounting Student Advisor and Jacklyn and Jennifer Chang of the Accounting Students Association are ready to speak with visiting students.
More than a 1000 students and parents visited both campuses at Sheridan College recently to get a glimpse of what’s in store for the next phase of their education. The Sheridan School of Business and the School of Community and Liberal Studies hosted the event in concert with Sheridan Student Services.

Parents and students take a campus tour with the Sheridan Admission Reps.
Sheridan School of Business undergraduate programs provided information sessions for each program major outlining overall program information, typical course loads, course information, and tips and tricks for surviving at college. Many programs utilized the STARS or Student Admission Representatives to give the prospective students an insider student view of the programs. Parents and friends had their own information session to discuss typical parental concerns and help demystify the college experience.

After the information sessions, students and parents were taken on a tour of the campus including visits to the Library Learning Commons, cafeteria, bookstore, health services, and typical classrooms.

John Hardisty, Coordinator, Human Resources Management program
Sheridan School of Business Professor and Coordinator of the Human Resources Management program, John Hardisty was re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Human Resource Professionals Association for a second three year term. Hardisty is a long term member of HRPAH and has held Vice-president and President roles as well as his current position on the Board of Directors for HRPA.
The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) is Canada’s HR thought leader and the largest HR association in the country. In Ontario, HRPA regulates the HR profession and issues the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, the national standard for excellence in human resources management. HRPA has more than 18,000 members in 28 chapters and hosts the largest annual HR conference in Canada.
The HRPAH is a chapter of the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) serving Members in Halton Region, including the communities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville.
The HRPAH primary mission is to provide professional development and networking opportunities that enable members’ career progression and success. HRPAH are also committed to assisting Halton’s human resources students launch their careers through the advice, counsel and mentoring of our Practitioner and CHRP Members. HRPAH also seek to establish and develop positive and productive relationships with the Halton community through relationships with various levels of government, community groups and other area professional associations.

Sheridan’s SCAET theatre was re-named the Virox Technologies Inc Theatre in recognition of Randy Pilon’s great contributions to Sheridan College and the Sheridan School of Business. Pilon, President, and CEO of Virox Technologies Inc, is a Sheridan School of Business graduate and a 2006 Hall of Fame inductee.
Pilon was the driving force and major contributor to The Virox Future Forum, designed to bring Sheridan School of Business student leaders and powerful business personalities together to discuss the future needs of employment, and to help Sheridan graduates make plans for successful careers in business.
Sheridan’s new president Dr. Jeff Zabudsky praised Pilon’s contributions to Sheridan College and The School of Business saying that it was donors like Randy Pilon and Virox Technologies Inc that help Sheridan students to “Shine Brighter”.

Neil Robb is ready to cut the cakes to celebrate his retirement.
Neil Robb fondly bid farewell to Sheridan College and his School of Business colleagues at a small in-office reception at each campus as he finally started his retirement plans for certain this time.
Robb was coerced out retirement by former School of Business Dean, Gerard Mercer to assist the School of Business as an interim Associate Dean while the search process was conducted to replace administrators who had moved on.
Sheridan School of Business faculty and staff thanked Robb for his contribution to the school during his latest tenure. Interim Dean, Carolyn Ferreira praised Robb’s contribution to program development.
“Neil has contributed much to the culture and viability of Sheridan College and The Sheridan School of Business programs,” said Ferreira.
The search process for a new Dean for the Sheridan School of Business continues.

Sheridan School of Business professors, Sally Mitzel, Chuck Minken, Brian Lyons, Doug Greenwood, and Kellie Hayward hold the plans for the new City Centre campus.
Sheridan School of Business professors Sally Mitzel, Brian Lyons, Doug Greenwood, and Kellie Hayward with team leader Chuck Minken will form the Mississauga City Centre Campus Start-up Group to focus on some of the challenges facing the Business School during the planning process.
The mandate of the Campus Start-up Group will be to solicit feedback from the various Sheridan School of Business programs to make recommendations to Sheridan College administrators about program and course inclusion at the new campus.
“We see ourselves as an advisory group, soliciting feedback from our School of Business colleagues about any and all elements surrounding the future move by the Sheridan School of Business to City Centre, and presenting it to Sheridan’s administrative group,” said Chuck Minken, team leader.
A copy of the floor and elevation plans for the new City Centre campus are posted in the main School of Business office at each campus.
