Sheridan Marketing students fund-raise for Canadian Cancer – Humane Society with Carnival of Fun

Washing cars in the hot sun for a good cause.

The combined students of the Faculty of Business summer semester Professional Edge class demonstrated their event planning skills with a fund-raising event they dubbed Carnival of Fun. Forty second year business students washed student, faculty, and staff cars, smashed cars with hammers, threw water balloons and generally entertained passers-by recently, all in aid of The Canadian Cancer Society and the local Humane Society.

Professor John MacRae takes a turn as the target for the water-balloon toss.

“The event provided a unique opportunity for Sheridan Faculty of Business marketing students to plan and run a special event. Students were able to see their plans unfold for individual events (groups of 4) within a large theme, to build a team and manage a hands-on project to produce a successful event.  All events were designed to be self funded through donations of prizes and this left most of the revenue for charity”, said Professor John MacRae .

“The entire class really worked well together, as each student helped promote the entire day and work collaboratively to help the entire class succeed.  After the event day the majority of the class said they would enjoy working on events as part of their marketing career”, said MacRae.

Corporate donors for the event included Tim Horton’s,  The Home Depot, Premier Fitness and Domino Pizza.
