“A recruiting representative from Westjet came and spoke to us about their company. After that workshop, I applied and got an interview,” said Schuurman.
The workshop, one of many planned by Tourism and Travel faculty to introduce their students and assist them to network with industry personnel, was part of program coordinator Victoria Renton’s Air Travel and Tariff class.
After being hired by WestJet, Schuurman waited in a pool position before being assigned as a Customer Service Representative at Hamilton Airport, and then six months later she was working as a flight attendant.
“Life as a flight attendant has it’s ups and downs – both literally and figuratively. It is not always easy being a flight attendant, but at the end of the day, a simple thank-you from one of our guests, or a compliment on a job well done make it all worthwhile in my office in the sky,” said Schuurman.
“I will always have the skills that I learned at school, and I will always think back on the great times and friendships that were made at Sheridan. Thank-you Sheridan for helping me realize my dream, ” said Schuurman.
