Sheridan School of Business…this week

November 5, 2010

Mississauga City Center campus

The mid-term break has come and gone and we are moving far too quickly towards the end of term, final assignments, final exams, and the dreaded end of term grade entry.

Meanwhile, the Mississauga City Centre Campus is moving along, the outside walls almost entirely closed, interior wiring, plumbing and such is proceeding apace. We are assured that the building will be ready for us come September 2011 – and also, meanwhile, thanks to the hard work of many, the academic planning and preparation continues to make us ready for “The Big Move”.

City Centre Campus approaching from north.

If you feel stressed out – review the changes that we have endured, and the changes yet to come in the School of Business – soon to be named the Faculty of Business as we move ahead with college-wide name changes to reflect the changing and evolving culture at Sheridan College.

Working next to the sun.

We have a new dean of business, a new president, a new campus, a new attitude about how learning can be delivered, and a new attitude about creativity, and what it means in a college learning environment…..Whew!

Two of our 3 Year Advanced Ontario Diploma in Business Administration -  Marketing  graduates Anthony Guidotti and Nathalie Fassano graduated from HAN University in Arnhem in the Netherlands in June 2010 with Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business and Management Studies. “Both students did very well to complete their degrees in a foreign country and adapted well during their studies,” said Professor Charles Minken, Sheridan School of Business liaison with Han University.

Nathalie also graduated from Han with distinction due to her high academic achievement in her program. These are the first Sheridan Graduates completing their diploma at HAN.

HAN University is also an exchange study partner with Sheridan’s Bachelor of Applied Business in Global Business Management studies. Currently a number of other Sheridan graduates from Sheridan School of Business 3 year Finance and 3 year Advertising Diploma programs are studying at HAN.

Nipissing University Convocation was held on October 22, 2010 and approximately 45 Sheridan business students graduated. Associate Dean Jeremy Staples attended.

Nipissing University offers their courses on-site at Sheridan College to allow Sheridan graduates to complete their Bachelor of Commerce degree (B.Comm) in about 12 months by offering a full selection of small classes and tutorials lead by expert professors. Students would normally complete the required 15 courses for the degree over a three semester period.

Griffith University Convocation was held on September 25, 2010 and 3 Sheridan business students graduated. Sheridan School of Business Dean, Dr. William Holmes attended on behalf of the School of Business.

“Both attending graduates enthusiastically endorsed their Griffith University experience and commented that their studies at Sheridan had prepared them well academically.  The opportunity for Sheridan graduates to complete degrees at prestigious institutions like Griffith University in Australia is just one of the many important educational and professional pathways available for our students,” said Dean Dr. William Holmes.

Griffith University is spread over five campuses between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland. Our students are perfectly placed to make the most of everything Queensland has to offer academically, culturally and geographically.

Students can get information about Sheridan’s University on Campus visits by visiting the Student Services link.
